Fabric:

Four different coloured medium and dark prints

Guild fabric

Cutting Instructions:

Template version:

2 - Template A in each print (8 pieces in total_

16 - Template B in guild fabric

Non-Template Version:

2 - 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangles in each print

16 - 3 1/2" squares guild fabric

Non Template version directions:

  1. On the reverse side of all the guild fabric pieces draw a line diagonally from one corner to the other.
  2. Place a guild square, right sides together with a rectangle and sew on the diagonal line. Repeat for all rectangles.

  3. Press open the units so they look like this:

  4. The outside edges should all line up relatively well. Trim away the excess. (If you’re really frugal sew another seam 1/2 inch outside the original one, cut between the two seams and you’ll have some small half triangle squares to use for another project).
  5. Place the remaining background squares with the units as shown:

Sew on the diagonal line. Press open and trim as before. You should now have 8 flying geese units, 4 of each fabric.
  6. Sew the matching units together into 4 - 2 geese units.

(Hint: sew with the unit with the points on top so that you can make sure to intersect exactly.)
  7. Following the picture of the finished block, sew these 4 units together.
